The gutters collect the rain water and direct it into the downpipes and drains, however, if there are any blockages the water will find other avenues of escape. Dirt, grime, algae, leaves, etc. can collect in the gutters and prevent the rain water from flowing through the system.  Dampness is a main factor when gutters are blocked, if they are left untreated.  Other problems that can occur is damage to the brickwork as the water can erode the mortar between the brickwork, which can loosen the bricks.  The foundations of the building could also be a problem, if gutters are blocked and left.

It is essential to keep the gutters maintained, and we would recommend having them checked and cleaned twice a year.
